Wake Forest North Carolina Sports
We met for the first time last weekend at the North Carolina State Fairgrounds in Raleigh for a day of fun, games, food and entertainment.
Wake Forest and North Carolina may not have had to be sneaky big games in the ACC, but their success this year has earned them a spot as one of the top three teams in college basketball. Wake Forest has averaged 41.8 ppg in its last three games, good enough for the second-best mark in the ACC game.
Meanwhile, Wake Forest turned a game against the Syracuse Orange into a track meeting, picking up gold that outscored them 438 yards to 221. That win sent Wake Forest to the Orange Bowl to play Big East champion Louisville, where it lost to the Cardinals. Once again, it may not be the most beautiful team in the country, but the Demon Deacons will have more wins than losses this year and they will play extra football coming into bowl season.
The Wake Forest Demon Deacons will try to build on their four-game winning streak when they travel to Clemson on Saturday. They have four straight wins since opening against Clemson and North Carolina State and will continue their streak when they take on the top - the Clemson Tigers (4-1, 1-0 ACC) in Clemson's home opener. For Wake Forest, the goal will be to get past Clemson into the top 10 and claim its fourth straight win.
The game is at Kenan Memorial Stadium and Wake Forest has played 37 games this season, but North Carolina was a much better team at home. UNC is good at 40.9 ppg overall, while Kenan averages 45 pg through three games. N.C. The state's home games are subject to state and county health guidelines that restrict mass events.
Wake Forest, which leads 5-1 in the Finals, has won those contests by an average margin of 10.8 points. No team that has played more than two games has had fewer goals against Wake Forest.
During the winning streak, Wake Forest has scored 20 of 21 times in the red zone, 14 of them for touchdowns. It has punched 18 points on the ground this season and is ranked 25th in the nation with an average of 37 points per game. Watch out for the Demon Deacons in Saturday's game against North Carolina State at 7: 30 p.m.
Kenneth Walker III of Wake Forest ranks sixth in the nation with seven touchdowns in the red zone, while teammate Christian Beal-Smith is eighth.
The third and second graders played flawless football in each of his first two seasons. In 2014 and '15, he was the Atlantic Coast Conference's first all-team player and a finalist for ACC Defensive Player of the Year. His most recent sporting honors include a second-round selection in the 2014 NCAA Division I I Football Bowl Subdivision (FBS) and an honorable mention selection to the 2015 College Football Playoff National Championship game. Since 2002, Wofford Football Club has won five championships, five in 2002 and three in 2003, 2004, 2005 and 2006. Wake Forest has won three ACC titles and four ACC championships in the regular season.
The men's basketball team has made 16 straight postseason appearances, and the team advanced to the NCAA tournament in 2006, where it was defeated by the University of California, Santa Barbara.
Howell had a solid day with 235 passing yards and three touchdowns, but the backs were UNC's story on Saturday. Howell scored on a 30-yard pass to junior wide receiver De'Anthony Thomas for his sixth touchdown pass in the second quarter. The lead didn't last long, as Wake Forest left the field in just three games and regained the lead with junior Jaquarii Roberson. UNC (7-3, 3-1 ACC) failed to convert a short fourth-down shot and returned the ball with WakeForest in good field position. A three-yard pass from Howell to senior wideout D.J. Wilson converted the 21-point wake-up forward lead.
Wake Forest won't beat UNC in this game, but without star cornerback Storm Duck, you can wonder if UNC can hold Wake Forest to 30 points. Although UNC has a 35-point or one-point barrier, I think Wake will fight back by attacking the defensive backfield with UNC's best cornerback.
I think you can say Wake Forest is hot right now and looking really good with their winning streak. The same could be said for UNC, which reappeared big after its loss to Virginia. Andrien White scored 15 points and helped Wake Forest beat a cold, shooting UNC 74-57 to earn its second double-double of the season. UNC will play its match against the Duke Blue Devils on Saturday night at 7: 30 p.m. in Durham, North Carolina.
Gobbe decided to stay with the Deacons despite being offered coaching positions at other schools, much to the relief of Wake fans. Clawson, who is now a coach at Wake Forest, can give Badgers fans an insight into what he can do in his second year as head coach.
